I have same warning chime on instrument panel. It says service brake system and is becoming more frequent. Sometimes it stays on. Sometimes it goes off on its own.
I had dead instrument panel and took it in for recall repair. While dealer had it for a week and sent instrument cluster off, I had them put new tires on it. I went from 245/75/16 to 265/75/16 and made no gear or program modifications.
2 weeks after I got it back, the chime and service brake system warning started. I have already replaced the speed sensor for $100 which did not make it go away. Through research on internet I have seen 2 possible causes. Ignition barrel or ignition switch bad or the result of using a bigger tire? I looked into standard tire size for this before buying and various places said 265/75/16 would still fall with-in the normal size range for tires.
Any ideas?
Its V8 with Vortec 6000 and 85,000mi.
When you replaced the ABS sensor on the hub, did you clean and re-gap the sensor to the speed ring on the hub. There was a recall on the ABS Malfunction on your truck. The tire size don't make a difference to your ABS as long as all four tires are the size, There was a issue bulletin with your Tahoe on the ABS activating under 8 km/h. Good luck and hope this helps, if not clean out the sensor with brake parts cleaner and check the wire harness and ABS sensor bracket. Re gap the sensor to the speed ring hub. Here is the bulletin. Anti lock Brake (ABS) Activation at Low Speeds (Clean Wheel Speed Sensor Mounting Surface) #03-05-25-007C - (05/16/2006) 2001-2006 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, Silverado
