Does this car have an interference motor?

ford escort/ focus engine 2.0 l spi sohc 1997-2004 has been identified as an intereference engine and that means very likely valve to piston damage
( auto data timing belt information )
note-- up to 2002 year Ford has not recommended a timing belt interval for changing
Ford has however recommended a replacement every 120.000 miles using the service history as a guide
however good professional trade practice recommends every 60.000 miles ( 100.00klms) and the replacement work should include replacement of the crank and cam shaft seals and idler pulleys involved ( the biggest destroyer of belts is oil)
recommended labor time is 2 hours
if the belt has broken then head removal and valve work will add up to 5 hours to that time

1999 ford escort exhuast cam not oiling 2.0 dubble overhead cam

The only thing that can cause this is plugged oil supply galleries, you must remove the head and have it hot tanked to remove the deposits that are blocking the oil to the camshaft.

Cannot remove transmission

Did you remove the torque converter bolt's from the fly wheel, should be 4. You will have to turn the motor by hand to remove all the bolt's.

I'm trying to install a new timing belt for my 1999 ford escort zx2 with a vct motor. I aligned the camshafts, did a full rotation and they came out of alignment. How do you align the camshafts with the...

It is normal for the exhaust cam to be slightly off during a rotation because of the nature of the VCT mechanisim. It uses oil pressure to change the cam angle. Since there is no oil pressure with the engine off, it won't stop in the same place every time. Check the links below for more information:

1999 cross country v70 awd crankshaft seal replacement

Your info is confusing. The rear cam seal is not inside the timing belt cover, and the crank seal is at the bottom of the engine, while the cam seal is at the top.

Is there oil at the top, around the cam seal? Or just at the bottom? It's common for the oil pump seal to leak. If you get the oil pump reseal kit, it contains the oil pump seal and gasket, as well as the crankshaft seal. Make sure you seal the oil pump bolts, Volvo has special copper washers for this purpose.

Just try to locate the oil leak before replacing any more parts. Sometimes it can be something simple like the oil cap seal or the oil trap housing.
