How to replace a Liftgate Latch Handle on a 2005 Chevrolet Uplander?

I need to replace the Liftgate Latch Handle on an Uplander. The old handle (plastic) broke under the trim and the liftgate is now shut and unable to open. How would I open the door in the first place and then replace the handle?

First of you need to take the panel of the rear door from the inside then you can just grab the rod and pop it open. With the door panel off it is an easy thing to replace the handle just a couple screws are bolts to take lose .Also make sure you put the rods back just like you take them off may I suggest taking a picture if you can of the latch inside the door. Good luck.

Thank you much. Is there any trick to taking the rear door panel out? Is it just a matter of finding the screws? Or does it just pop off?

No not really it should come off the same way as a car door panel.

Power lift gate will not operate

You have to pull the inside door panel off an check it out , only way !
  • The lift gate latch release is inoperative/does not operate correctly
  • Circuitry
  • Liftgate release switch (integral to the liftgate release handle)
  • Liftgate release motor (integral to the liftgate latch)
  • Power liftgate module
  • SJB
  • Go To Pinpoint Test F .
Normal Operation The smart junction box (SJB) does not release the liftgate unless the doors have been unlocked electronically or the request is initiated from a remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter.
The SJB sends a voltage signal to the liftgate release switch (part of the liftgate release handle) through circuit CPL45 (BN). When the switch is activated (the handle is pulled), the signal is routed to ground through circuit GD150 (BK/WH). When the SJB detects a request from the liftgate release switch, the SJB provides voltage through circuit CPL10 (BN/BU) to the liftgate latch release motor (integral to the liftgate latch) (vehicles with a manual liftgate) or the power liftgate module (vehicles equipped with a power liftgate). For vehicles with a manual liftgate, ground for the liftgate latch is provided through circuit GD150 (BK/WH).
DTC B2666 - is an on-demand DTC that sets when the SJB detects a short to ground from the liftgate release switch input circuit.
DTC B273A - is an on-demand DTC that sets when the SJB detects a short to ground from the liftgate latch release output circuit.
DTC B273B - is an on-demand DTC that sets when the SJB detects an open or short to voltage from the liftgate latch release output circuit.
    Possible Causes
  • Circuit CPL45 (BN) open or short to ground
  • Circuit CPL10 (GN/WH) open, short to ground or voltage
  • Circuit GD150 (BK/WH) open
  • Liftgate release switch (integral to the liftgate release handle)
  • Liftgate release motor (integral to the liftgate latch)
  • Power liftgate module
  • SJB
Your best bet is to take it to the dealer !

Liftgate on 2005 uplander won't open

The locking mechanism on the rear lift gate for the Chevy Uplander has some plastic and rubber-coated parts that can get jammed. If you can pull back the panel from the inside top near the glass, you can reach down and try to spray some silicone lubricant into the lock. This could help get those parts unstuck so they spring back when you pull on the handle latch from the outside. Once you get the rear hatch open, I recommend taking out the locking mechanism and thoroughly lubricating it. Your rear lift gate will start to release very easily from then on.

2005 Suburban Liftgate will not open

HAVE A FRIEND PUSH ON THE GLASS WHEN YOU TRY TO OPEN IT THE NEXT TIME. THE LATCH INSIDE IS LOOSE AND NEEDS TO BE TIGHTENED. BY PUSHING ON THE HANDLE IN THE GLASS DOOR YOU CAN RELIEVE THE PRESSURE FROM THE LOCK AND OPEN IT THEN LOOK ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE HANDLE IN THE GLASS THERE IS A SMALL METAL PEG WITH A NUT AT THE BOTTOM I THINK IT 7/16 OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. TIGHTEN IT UP AND YOURE ON YOUR WAY

My 2007 lift gate will not openback up. It would work for a while and then not. Now it will not open at all.

Your only solution might be to access the liftgate from inside by removing the panel, then try pulling on the cable that opens the latch. If it opens, the handle (the outside one, the one you pull) might be broken where the cable attaches to it. I have seen liftgate handles work intermittently when the plastic tab that retains the cable is in the process of breaking off, and when it finally does, no more opening liftgate.

If the liftgate still does not open, the latch is stuck. Spray with something like PB Blaster (auto parts stores carry it) or even brake parts cleaner (to dissolve gunk that might be making it stick).

If / when it starts to work again, apply some lithium grease to the mechanism to keep it from getting stuck again.

Hope this helps.

PT Cruiser LAtch won't operate

If the latch won't operate when you use the handle, try inserting the key, turning it, and pulling up on the liftgate while the key is in the turned position (it won't stay there, so you need to hold it turned while you raise the liftgate.
