SOURCE: Daihatsu terios 2007 OD light flashing p1706

Hello,

Got a book to your vehicle? Sounds like a sensor or switch either on the engine or transmission. In your book look at any switch or sensor associated with the 1706 code. Usually, when a code is thrown the code is meant to narrow down possible problems. Sometimes in the code reader book there will be some given parts associated with a specific code. However, to me--this sounds like a transmission shift module or throttle rpm communication problem.

I hope this helps.

O/d light is flashing on Daihatsu/Toyota Terios 2008 fault code u1706

that lamp oD flashing means transmission errors seen

it needs service
the users guide told you that, if read
u1706 (code 7 means trans errors)the banging is not any kind of good news. CVT boxes love to fail like that

Engine light code says gear 4 out of ratio. I was told it was the OD going out. Do I have to replace the entire transmission, or can I just have the OD fixed?

Overdrive is actually inside the torque converter. Look at the transmission control module. Have it tested for proper operation first. There is a solenoid inside the transmission on the valve body that the module operated. Since you didn't get a fail on the solenoid, the OD clutches may be worn enough to slip. No need to replace the entire transmission, just the torque converter.

On Daihatsus, p1706 is usually related to a transmission fault or a fault with one of the trasmission switches

Error codes

Her is the definition and a list of possiable causes.

Code P1740-Torque converter clutch did not lock up when the PCM sent the command. Enabling conditions: No engine or transmissions codes are present, vehicle speed was under 70 MPH, TPS was under 33% open. When the PCM commanded the torque converter to lock, no change was detected in engine speed. Blocking action: This code can block the following monitors: none.
Testing: Check torque converter solenoid for proper operation.
P1740 TCC O/D SOL PERFORMANCE (GAS)
Theory of Operation
The Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid is used to engage the TCC which improves fuel economy.
When Monitored
The Torque Convertor Clutch (TCC) and Overdrive Clutch (OD) will be tested each time the PCM requests TCC engagement in 3rd gear and OD.
Set Condition
The DTC will set if the expected RPM drop is not achieved while attempting to engage TCC or OD. This indicates a malfunctioning torque convertor or overdrive clutch.
Possible Causes
* ENGINE DTCS PRESENT
* TRANSMISSION DTCS PRESENT
* TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE TOO COLD
* OIL PAN CONTAINS EXCESSIVE DEBRIS
* 3-4 SHIFT SOLENOID
* SHAFT OR SEAL DAMAGE
* TCC SOLENOID
* TORQUE CONVERTER
