There is no way to reset the "Anti-Theft" system. Hopefully you have more than one ignition key. Slide one key into the ignition cylinder and try to start the engine. If nothing, try the same thing with the other key. There is a transponder inside each key and the exciter ring will send a signal to the key. If the signal that it receives is not valid, then the Anti-Theft system will tell the ECU not to allow the car to be started. What is the security light doing while you try to start the engine? Did this problem happen out of the blue? Was a repair performed on the ignition switch? Are there any other symptoms? Please write back and let me know, good luck.

SOURCE: anti theft system is locked

With the drivers window down and all the doors closed and the hood open diconnect the battery. reach in and turn the key to run. Connect the battery without skipping around and the dash lights should come on. turn the key off and enter the car and start it as normal.

Welcome to Fixya

Turn the key to off position, then turn all the way to ON postion without starting the engine and let it sit like that for 10 min. This will reset the anti theft program in the cars computer. After 10 min turn the key to the off position and then try to start the car. Thank you for using Fixya!

My car wont start it was driving pretty but now it wont start everything else works.. is there a anti thef on

if the anti-theft system has been activated there should be a light on the instrument cluster that is lit or flashing.if no light is on then you have a different problem.

You don't. You will have to go to a shop and have them put a scanner on your vehicle and then repair the problem with the PATS System

2000 Volkswagen Beetle starting problems due to anti theft system

you need to check the drivers door lock unit. this is a more common problem where the switch fails and the anti-theft system doesn't get disarmed by the door unlocking

The theft light flashing indicates there was a problem detected with the anti theft system. The computer will have to be scan tested and either repaired or reprogrammed. This is a very complicated procedure and requires specialized equipment. You will probably have to have it towed to the dealer or a very well equiped private repair facility. You might want to try leaving the key on for about an hour or try another key but this rarely works. Good Luck.

Anti theft

hi , not necessarily , did you replace the key and tumbler , or the ignition switch (electrical part) ? there is a password relearn procedure , attempt to start the vehicle , leave ignition on until THEFT SYSTEM indicator turns off , (approximetly 10 minutes) , turn ignition switch off , attempt to start vehicle , if vehicle starts , password has been learned ... if password does not relearn , i can post some diagnostic procedures .
