The serpentine belts came off while driving and the crankshaft bolt was loose, I took it apart and put everything back together, now there is still play in the harmonic balancer.

After checking around, I decided to replace the harmonic balancer. I had a repair shop fix it for me and I think they over charged for the part. But, at least I'm on the road again. This Grand Am has 227,000 miles and still runs pretty good.

Make sure you check timing and the belt. if it spun don't risk putting it back on. Hope you got a new key. TIMING is important so you don't stick a valve through the top of your piston

Sounds like the harmonic balancer - that also serves as the timing on a non distributor car has stripped the threads out. This usually - not always but usually requires a new crank shaft. Might be cheaper to just get a used engine.
take down the vin number and ask the local dealer if there have been any recalls or service bulletins

was the threads clean and dry of oil? thread locker needs to be a lone substance...no presence of oil, ...there technically is even a primer for thread lock.....bolt may be a torque to yeild bolt which means replace it every time its loosened...... both sets of threads must be dry and clean ,
and use a torque wrench to assure its correct torque
