It happened to me, I thought clutch.....but.....in my case it was the gear shift selector bushes. too much play, meaning, under bonnet/hood look down past the battery to see where gear select cable meets the gearbox bell housing, the rubber inside the joint wears out, it happens at both ends of the gear select cable, not a big expensive job. But it can make gearshift misses or failure to engage or release. I repeat...NOT EXPENSIVE ! also, check fluid levels and check for leaks. if not these.... then you are in clutch main assembly territory...good luck. Red

SOURCE: when my 2006 pt cruiser gets hot it is hard to

I live in Tucson AZ and have the same problem with my 2006 Cruiser. During mild weather (below 90 degrees) the clutch behaves fine. When it gets hotter, as it always does in the summer, it gets very hard to shift. I had clutch work done at the dealer (replaced a slave cylinder) and they had a hard time getting it to bleed properly. Said it is tricky and requires a special technique or something. I like the car, but this is quite frustrating.

SOURCE: PT CRUISER 2002 AUTOMATIC DOESNT CHANGE TO GEAR 3

Take it in & have it scanned, may only be a faulty solenoid or even brake switch may cause code & symptoms. Sooner you get it in, the cheaper it will probably be to repair it

SOURCE: location speed sensor pt cruiser 03 touring car do

It sounds like the module is in limp mode. The speed sensor is most likely the cause, but it can be some other things as well. A scan will give a code stating the problem area.

The speed sensors are on the side of the trasmission that faces the front of the vehicle. There are 2 of them, and they are the same sensor. One is an input speed sensor located closest to the engine, the other is the output speed sensor.

Clutch feels loose,no pressure. gears are stuck, shifter wont moveis it the clutch adjustment?

The Clutch Master Cylinder or the Clutch Slave Cylinder has a leak. From under the dashboard, located the Clutch Master Cyliner Boot and pry one side open. If hydraulic fluid drips out, the piston seal(s) in the cylinder are worn. You'll need to replace the cylinder.

2006 pt cruiser gear shift button stuck n can't completely take key out..but button pops up on all other gear except p n 1

On your shift console there should be a small button you pop out and can poke a toothpick in to release the shifter. If you see a little cap near it that looks like it has a small slot in it, pop that up and push the button. That will release the shifter. This may be stuck requiring you to either replace the button or take it in to have it repaired.

We have a Chrysler PT Cruiser 2.0 ltr 90K on the clock, always serviced. Now will not go into reverse gear. All other gears and clutch operation is fine....any suggestions

the shift cables can be adjusted but you will have to remove the cover around the console. Also look at the top of the transmission to see if any of the cables came off. Oreilly sells a chilton manual for pt cruisers on page 7a-2 it shows the cables and how to adjust them.
