SOURCE: Fuel gauge reads empty but fuel tank is full low

There is something going on with the sending unit in the tank , sounds like the level sensor arm is stuck in the down position or has come off.
Hard to diagnose without physically seeing it.

SOURCE: Fuel gauge on 1999 Dodge

The float mechanism (or fuel level sender) on your fuel pump may be stuck or damaged. Attached is a digram of a typical fuel pump that is located inside the gas tank of your Dodge Durango.metrocard.jpg
You will need to remove your gas tank and pull out the old fuel pump to see if this is the problem. If you do this I would replace the fuel pump with a new one.

My car has a full tank of gas but the meter reading says empty

If the vehicle still runs fine, then its a strong possibility that you fuel level sending unit is going bad. It's part of the fuel pump assembly located in the fuel tank.

The gas gauge reads empty and gas light is on even when gas tank is full

this problem is caused by a defective gas tank sending unit for the gage and the low fuel light, replace the sending unit.

Gas tank stuck on empty but has gas in it.

You will need to drain fuel tank and drop it down t from tank. Remove the fuel pump and check the fuel pump sending unit. Using an ohm meter, connect the ohm meter connecters to the fuel level sending unit. Carefully lift up the float and the ohm reading should be approximately 8 ohms. Then let the float all the way down and the reading should be approximately 100 ohms. If not replace the fuel pump assembly. Hope this will help you.

I have Nissan Altima with incorrect guage reading

The Correct Rerpair for this to to REPLACE the FUEL LEVEL Sending UNIT. It is Located INSIDE the Fuel Tank, After Reserching this through Numerous Resources I Have Fould that it is Incorperated into the FUEL PUMP. So You can Use your Current Calibration Method or Replace Fuel PUMP. Looking at the Vehicle AGE and IF IT HAS OVER 100K Miles on it , It is Advisable for you to Replace the INTIRE UNIT. It is OBVIOUSLY Not Manditory as the Vehicle is RUNNING, But If you Wish to Have Accurate FUEL LEVEL Reading Replacment is the ONLY OPTION.

Fuel Gauge not working

The switch that you use to change tanks is probably faulty - the switch supplies power for the sending unit in the tank, and to the transfer switch for the gas lines - use a meter to check it
