You can buy an adapter that will go in between your rear lights & main harness under van at connector, that will allow you to hook it up correctly. If it's a small trailer & no brakes on it, you may get a way with a flat 4 connection, provided your signals & brakes light use same bulb, otherwise you will need a small inline converter wired in also. Get back if you need more clarification. If only flat 4 and no brakes req'd, you can splice in to wires inside rear hatch that go to tailights. You decide & let me know if you need help. P.S. All you need is a test light (12v) and some connectors.

4 pin connector on my 09 caravan shows no power to any of the 3 light pins. This worked last time I used the trailer 6 months ago but now...........nada.

I also had the same problem with my 2008 grand caravan. It turned out to be a bad ground wire. A real difficult thing to find. You just might want to replace all of the wires or better still replace the entire harness it will save you a lot of trouble

Can I tow a horse trailer using Class IV hitches?

Towing must be taken seriously and you must therefore make sure the correct towing accessories. A class 4 hitch cannot handle the massive weight of a horse trailer, it is therefore better if you didnt use it but used a class 5 hitch which can handle the loads.

I have a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan that has a hitch but no light connection. My trailer has a universal 4 way connector. I cannot find anywhere to tap into the wiring of the van to splice the wires.

check etrailer.com. they have a harness that connects to the taillights and even an installation video. the access and wiring are through the jack storage compartment on the drivers side.

Trailer wiring problem. Tow vehicle is a 2008 Grand Caravan with 4 wire plug. Double checked, plug function works fine. When trailer is plugged to tow vehicle with tow vehicle lights OFF the trailer...

Most likely the brown wire from the trailer connector is connected to a constant battery voltage source, and it should be connected to the vehicle running light circuit, however someone might have wired the trailer connector up that way on purpose so that the trailer does not draw power from the vehicle running lights and possibly damage the vehicle running light circuit. (Dodge/Chrysler vehicles do have delicate lighting systems) Here are some images to help assist you, and the 4 way connector is the same as the 5 way connector just without the blue wire for the trailer brakes.

Hooking up Trailer lights

There should be a tail light connection behind the left light assembly, where the harness adapter plugs in.
