the best wat is to check salvage yard for one the same color.You might get lucky.And yes the right way would be is to replace mirror.

gm does make just a mirror glass than you can get at you local dealer.First ck all the clips on the mirror and make shure that they are not cracked

you have to take off the door pannle inside the car and the little bolts should be visible just take them off and ur good to go

at the bottom of mirror there is a square symbol with vertical lines that look like wriggling snakes, it is the same symbol used for the heated back glass.

As the owner of a 2001 Grand Prix GTP I can tell you that the mirror you speak of is not terribly difficult to replace, but you need the tools to remove the inside panels in the front corner of the window to get to it. Once you get that off there should be three bolts/nuts that hold the mirror on and if you have power mirrors then of course you'll have an electrical connector in there as well.

I dont have any instructions wrote up but there is a Grand Prix car club forum you can check that may have some information on how to replace it in more detail. You can go to grandprixforums.net, sign up and post up your problem and Im sure someone there will probably have specific instructions.

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls. Then you can access the bolts that secure the mirror onto the door
