The front speakers in my '91 Cady Seville Bose system are making static/crackling sounds... I bought the car used and the front speakers have never produced anything but static. The back speakers seem to work fine. Any tips on how can I trouble shoot the problem? Is there a power amp somewhere? Is there an easy way to just disconnect the power to the front speakers without taking the car apart? Any help will be greatly appreciated... Art
The amps are on each of the speakers. There is a place in Florida that will fix them for around $85.00 each plus shipping. I put a sony unit in mine and replaced all of the speakers with the kicker ds series for less than fixing the bose system.
Do you have balance and fade controls on the radio? If so you should be able to just turn off the front speakers with the fade control and listen to the rear speakers only. The front speakers have probably been damaged by too much volume and bass in past use. I'm assuming that Bose system speakers can be damaged that way. Replace the front speakers and that should fix it but if you dont want to tear into the car in any way then I suggest that you just listen to the rear speakers. Hope this helps.
