The correct oil weight is 5W20, but 5W30 can be used also. Be consistant when using oil, try to use the same brand and always use the same viscosity. This vehicle requires 4.5 liters of engine oil.

The oil you are now using is completely fine with that type of engine.
Changing grades of oil will not help you here.
You need to check the PCV valve, and the MAF sensor.
Really you need to get this vehicle onto a diagnostic computer to get an idea what is wrong.

synthetic oil is a great product use it if you can afford it and the oil filter that your owners manual recommends is just fine. also the weight that your manual says to use is what you need to get as well. example synthetic 10w40 i like castrol

check your oil pressure switch its probably has oil inside the connector clean it out and replace your oil pressure switch

Heavier Oil weight for Dodge Caravan

10-30 would be better,the 5-20 is really to thin to work well,the factory used it to get a bit better fuel mileage.Your Dodge probably just needs a a set of valve seals,only a couple hour job.

5W30 is the optimal oil for the van unless there is high air temperatures in your area in which case I would recommend 5W40. Hope this helps. Good luck!

The oil light came on in my 2005 Dodge Caravan. It was a little low so I filled it. The light went off but next time I drove it, it came back on. The oil level is fine. The light keeps coming on then going...

this could be due to a faulty oil sending unit, have the car tested with a mechanical gauge to make sure the oil pressure is with in specifications, if it is replace the sending unit,good time for an oil change,make sure that you use the proper weight oil,need more help get back to me Thanks Ray

Using different weight oil then mfg. suggest

10W30 should be fine... not sure if you know what those numbers mean... basically cold it will be 10 weight when it warms up 30 weight.... in cold climates that's important for starting the motor.

if you can't see it from above... underneath is the best way then. it is likely on the front of the motor (actually the side) closest to the radiator.
