There are OBD 1 meters and OBD 2 meters that read codes, if your car is OBD2 you need an OBD2 meter to read the codes.

The stepping motors in the gauges go bad. do a search on ebay for CHEVY SILVERADO INSTRUMENT CLUSTER for cheaper repair options. The dealer charges around $300.00. It will continue to worsen.

did you check that the cam shaft is turning ( broken timing belt /chain)
did you check to see if the immobilizer was working correctly
did you ruj the fault codes before replacing the ECM which would have had all the reported fault code stored ready for a read so that you would know where the fault was

Po452 and po446 on 04 chevy silverado have replaced fuel pressure sensor and reset but code po452 keep poping up

P0452 evap control pressure low, P0 446 evap vent contol circuit. Becuase you have P0452 you are dealing with a eletrical issue whether you have positive tank pressure or negative pressure, The tool for this is a volt meter.452 happens when you positive pressure and the FTP reads less than 0.1 volts. You need to jump the signal and the reference and monitor the take parameter on a scan data you should read reference voltage. Now if you dont have a scan data tool. inspect the wire for any breaks or shorting 2 thing of concern broken wire to the FTP or a ECM is needed.

How do i reset the ecm of my 1996 chevy silverado 1500

Use the OBD-II scanner for 1996 and up vehicles to clear codes and shut the service engine soon light off if set. I would read the codes before doing this, though, to get a clue as to what is tripping the ECM's light in the first place.

One can get a scanner for under $100 from Sears or Walmart or get the local Autozone or Advance Auto Parts to do it for free, if they do that in your area.

I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado with 213,000 and it runs great but it wont shift out of 2nd gear. Its an automatic. Any help? It wants to and never made any noise.

Reverse works fine? Have you had it scanned for codes. If the transmission has no power or has codes in the ecm the ecm will lock the transmission in second gear.

Heater fan not working . changed fuse and nothing Silverado 1500

you can test the motor with a multe tester with ohms capable, locate the heater motor and the wires feeding it there will be 2 find the plug and unplug it, using the tester probe the 2 wires with the red and black from the meter to the motor side, on ohms scale the meter should deflect close to full scale, with a digital it should read around 30 or have at least have a low number but no lower than 20 or so, if you get a reading your motor is probably OK, you can also use the meter in voltage mode and with the heater turned on you should read a voltage higher than 10 on the vehicular side of the plug, if there is no voltage there check to see if you have voltage at the heater fuse, if so than replace your fan control switch,,,good to go

Hi, the "check engine light" on my 1999 silverado is on but when i plug the codes can't be read from the device that plugs into the module, the fuses are not burnt out so it appears to be a problem with...

dont expect the ecm to be the problem. a good scanner will access the codes. Let me know the codes after you have them read. Autozone offers free scan service. Dont trust there diagnostic skills just get the codes and leave. Before replaceing ecm wireing should be checked
