Just bought a 1999 ford taurus drove fine, the next day it wouldnt shift all the time just some times. the fluid was low when i checked added the right kind of fluid and is still having the same problem. someone said it could be the shift solenoid. if it is where is this located and how hard is it to replace! My 1999 did same thing stuck in first or second. Speedometer wouldn't work sometimes also. replaced the Variable Speed Sensor on transmission. It was like new again.
Take to transmission shop and have serviced these will sometimes have issues with the solenoids in the transmissions.sooner you get it in the cheaper and less expensive the repair will be.

Transmissions are the biggest problem in the taurus/sable. Chances are you will need a new or rebuilt trans.
