'99 Mercury Cougar - Seatbelt light flashes 8 times in pattern

1. Turn key until seat belt light and others are turned on.
2. Wait around 1 minute until seat belt light turns off
3. Insert and remove seat belt 9 times
4. Light should turn back on
5. Within 10 seconds of Step 4, insert and remove seat belt.
6. Light should turn off and "seatminder" is now off.
7. To activate repeat the same procedure.

A bad seat belt switch inside the buckle, try some tuner cleaner from best buy or radio shack

The new 2013 Bentley Mulsanne Mulliner has the same thing.I know on the Bat Mobile it means the ejector seat is not fully charged.

1) The passenger seat of a newer general motors car

2) The seatbelt light does not light up when the seat is not occupied

3) The passenger side Airbag (SRS) has been turned OFF

4) While occupied , the seatbelt light on the insrument cluster lights steady

5) when the seatbelt is active (buckled with a passenger) the light flashes.

if the security system is malfunctioning, it wont let the engine start as to avoid someone stealing it. have someone check the system or just deactivate the security cuz your car is useless unless it runs! security can take a back seat to the ability for it to move

A humming sound usually means that the mechanism broke and the motor runs freely.

As far as I know that seat belt warning chime and light is there for your safety and protection, it should not be bypassed in any way.
There is no by pass seqwuence or code to eliminate this safety device.

the seat belt buckle with releases the belt when you lock have a light switch inside locking the seatbelt will touch it so light will out try to check this out

I guess the first question is, do you need this? Your car is probably too old to have the LATCH system or the locking seat belt. The adapter that is provided is to lock the seatbelt to keep constant tension on the seatbelt when extended over the child in a booster seat. Is this the adapter you are trying to use?
