SOURCE: cold weather starts

Your going to need a new battery. This is the simplest fix for the issue. I would also recommend a block heater. Certain models of these basically get mounted inline with your coolant hoses and they constantly heat and circulate your antifreeze so your car is instantly warm when you start it. They do have to be plugged into an electrical outlet but they are worth it in very cold weather.

Just don't forget to unplug them before you leave with the car :)

But for now sounds like the only thing you really need is a new battery. As much as i hate to say it walmart has some pretty good deals on batteries and they usually don't charge to put them in. Worth it especially when its cold.

SOURCE: In cold weather, car floods when trying to start

ncc-1701-d do not listen to this guy. This car is fuel injected. NO CARBURETOR! it's a throttle body! Do not mash pedal at all when starting car anytime. Engine light on? May be a problem with the Idle air control valve or the map sensor check the vacuum hose that goes to the map sensor. Check for vacuum leaks also. Check the three way connector on the hose from the cruise servo to vac. source. reply. 3800 or 3.8 these are two different motors.

It is hard to diagnose the problem with out knowing readings on the ac system,a low and high pressure readings would need to be known. This is needed to know if it is a internal ac system problem,or a vent door,or temp door problem.Have a mechanic put a set of gauges on the ac system to determine what is going on with the system.

SOURCE: car will not start in

Check your ignition coils.Take a multimeter and remove the plug wires. Now the coils are all paired so you need to set your multimeter to read ohms.MEASURE THE RESISTANE ACROSS EACH SET OF COILS.They should all read within 1000 ohms of each other. If not replace the coil pack assembly.

There's a shutter valve to restrict air flow either before or after the air filter housing. In cold winter, this valve is closed as you start up the engine. As the engine area warms up, the shutter valve opens up to allow more air to flow into the intake manifold. In close position, the restriction in air flow results in rich fuel mixture. When its open, the fuel mixture is leaner. If it were locked in open position, you crank the cold engine and you get a lean mixture instead of a rich mixture to start up in cold mornings.

Engine turns but won't start when temperature id around freezing or below.

Possible bad cold start valve or the sensor that tells the valve to activate when cold. Start by replacing the cold start valve first.

Hello lysiphlebus2,

((My thoughts: cold START valve IAC at very bottom))

Plenty of places will do FREE diagnostic code reads.

I would rather suggest it be a muffler shop than
AUTOZONE... but either is better than guessing.

AUTOZONE will likely make you buy OXYGEN
sensors... (but that makes about as much sense as
buying a new THERMOMETER every-time you
have a FEVER.

What you are describing sounds (from an old
mechanic's perspective) like a collapsing
catalytic convertor or rotted muffler baffle
(a slightly better blockage will halt operation
completely)...

((again speculation... get your codes read))...

Do not buy OXYGEN SENSORS....

Know your prices before waltzing into any
exhaust shop.

It hesitate to start up in cold weather i have to give a pump of

There is a cold start valve srpay extra fuel at the start to assist the start in the cold weather. If it is not open during the start then this is why there is a problem. This valve is operated by an electric coil. Even checking the resistance reading, but the valve is still not opening due to being stuck. Power is only coming to the valve during the start and the temperature is cold reported by the coolant temperature sensor . If the coolant temperature sensor is bad reporting warm temperature then the valve will not open. The temp sensor is less expensive than the valve, so it is an economical way to tackle the sensor first. Good luck.
