I'm trying to get the stock radio out of my 1991 Ford Tempo. I have the right tools (i.e. the things that go into the 4 small holes in the radio) I have also unscrewed every screw underneath the radio, but it just won't come out .... seems like there is another screw above the radio ... under the dashboard .... Do I have to remove the whole thing, or is there an easier way to get the radio out? Thank You!
I GOT IT!!! There were about 3 screws under the stereo ... and a screw in the very back of it ... which can't be seen or reached unless you scratch all of your hands in a perfectly upside down position for 30 minutes.

After that .... you need the spring release tools ... but its not over yet ... although you have removed all of the screws, it might seem as you haven't, because a great effort must be put in jerking that radio left and right as hard as you can (using the release tools). ... but hey, it can be done!

I have seen where they attach another bracket/brace to rear or top, or bottom to keep radio from bouncing up & down in dash. Have you tried a mirror at different angles & flashlight to look, if you can't see it plainly.

Re: Trouble Replacing Car Stereo in 1991 Ford Tempo
Until u get the hang of it the spring release tools are hard to use, but once u see what makes the spring locks release they are easy the next time. GOOD JOB!!!!

hi there is a knack to doing this..when you insert the keys into either side of the stereo, make sure when you pull up..that you are also pulling outwards at the same time, this then pushes in the locks that hold the radio in...hope that helps
You will need special tools they look like miniature horse shoes usually walmart carries them something like $10.00 you can use small screw drivers but going that route your just going to create unwanted costly damages to your cosmetic and internal interior of your vehicle .These are called Ford removal tool model DT-1F hear is a quick link for you to view.WWW.SCOSCHE.COM okay good luck and all the best merry Christmas.
It would take way to long to tell you a step by step procedure in here.
You can get a haynes auto repair manual for that car, it gives a step by step procedure on most major removal and installation jobs. Most auto parts stores stock them, about $17.00.

U have a Factory audio auxiliary amp in the truck, the radio is just a head unit with a preamp feeding a main amp, that is behind the right rear 1/4 panel trim panel in the cargo area, if your new sound unit has preamp outputs use them, other wise u must wire around the Ford factory amplifier.
here is the radio's wire color diagram, u should be able to fix the problem with this info.Fuse box is on drivers side under the dash. 1991 Ford Tempo Car Radio Wiring Guide
