When pushing the open button for rear latch it sometimes will open by it self, then oother times you have to help it to open, then when closing it seems to sense something in it path and reopens, and will continue to do so, unless you help push it close, the same goes for left side door,

SOURCE: 1990 Nissan D21 Tailgate won't stay closed

Common problem on these vehicles. Keep it simple and bullet proof by just loosing the original arrangement and screwing in a manual latch on each side. A couple of gate latches are cheap and work forever. Not pretty but functional.
If you find anything at a junk yard it'll cost plenty and will be bound to fail like yours already has.

SOURCE: the door won't stay closed

you may have to take off the inside panel and see if the inside latch is broken stop by your local nissan dealership in the parts department and they be able to print you off pictures and diagrams showing you how it comes a part.

So I close my car driver side door and it automatically says on the dash board that my door is open?? Any suggestions on what might be wrong. Its a 2011 Ford edge if that helps at all. thanks

Your door ajar system is tied into the door latch mechanism. if the door still appears to close tightly, and the door latch works properly, then you may need to adjust or replace the latch, though ford has listed a cleaning procedure for the latch that involves using a tool to test latch position and manually closing the latch (while door is OPEN) using a screwdriver 10-20x and monitoring to see if the latch consistently shows CLOSED and OPEN when it should.
If pushing the door closed after its already closed causes the lamp to turn off, an adjustment of the latch may help, or cleaning the latch contacts may also help. If the door never shows latched regardless of how hard it is pushed, it may be a defective latch, or a wiring problem (Door wires sometimes break in the door harness between the door and the side of the dashboard when the harness enters the vehicle).

Rear passenger exterior door handle will not open door. it lifts up but will not activate latch.

You need to open door from inside, take off door panel and reconnect small plastic clip that attaches external door handle.

Door won't close

You have probably bumped the latch and caused it to close. Look at the latch in the door. The latch has a locking arm that is down when in the locked position and up at the top when in the open position. If the arm is down in the center of the latch opening of the door push the arm upward until it locks in place.(sometimes you have to activate the latch handle/button on the outside of the door while pushing the arm upward)

Rear door lock is stuck, cannot close door 1993 jeep larado

you probably nee d a new door latch assembly; inside the door, take alot of wd40, lube the door latch were it closes against striker pin, to free the movable part of the latch; push in on the door handle (like your opening the door), at the same time use a pointy screwdriver awl or flat blade scredriver and push the latch up and out of the locked position, its the movable part in the door latch, hopefully its not bent and will not move. also sometimes the door hinges wear out and the latch striker does not line up with the door latch pin, see if they line up if they do not close the door while lifting it at the same time. I hope this helps you
