The Internet, though, has a large number of web sites
where you can buy service manuals and schematics
from bookstores, publishers, and other collectors. Here
is just a sampling of what sites are out there:

sounds to me the heater box needs replacing. could be because of a leaking heater core. are you havings to add coolant? wet floor mats on pass side? the knocking you are hearing is more than likely the blower fan hitting on the plastic molding because of a faulty bearing in its driveshaft.
There is a diversion valve that closes off the heater core. If there is an air pocket or if pressure bypasses that could cause the thump. And allow the heater core to warm up and in turn cause the ac not to blow as cold. It is like having the heat and the ac on at the same time. To fix this make sure cooling system is free of air, and check the diversion valve to ensure proper working.
If I understand your problem, your heat works, but no A/C. It sounds like the blend door motor is not moving the door to the cool position. This could be caused by a bad blend door motor, or a bad interior temperature sensor. Because you said you heard a banging noise, it sounds like the blend door is stuck. The interior temp sensor would make no noise.
I take a shoot here you can try this. try pulling the fuse or fuses that go to your heater blower and heater controls. If it stops check your heater blower it may be going bad, if you find nothing there, leave the blower unplugged and try turning your key on and see if you still hear it. If so I would think that the heater control is mess up and open and close the air blend door or you may have a wire shorted out under the dash some where.
Sounds exactly like what my mom's car was doing as for the blower only working on high. It was the resistor... I assumed it was the climate controls and replaced them but it didn't change anything then i thought that i must be the blower motor and replaced that too but it turned out to be the resistor which is under the dash on the passenger side of the car.
