Take the car to an autoparts store and have them scan the computer for fault codes. Most parts stores will do the scan for free. The check engine light is to alert you that the computer has identified a fault in one of the car's systems. It's called "Alldata" and it is the same system that shops pay to subscribe to. It will tell you in detail how to get the pump out and back in.
