Have someone scan the computer for trouble codes. The trouble codes will point you in the direction of the problem and what to test.

SOURCE: Service Traction System Light on 2003 Chev Impala

on the rotors you probably noticed two lines one for the brakes and the other is your traction control magnet which picks up a signal to tell the computer to control the braking system when the wheel locks up in hard braking, you either damaged the magnet or it picked up some metal shaving while replacing the brake pads

SOURCE: Impala - trac off and ABS light along with service traction syst

THE PROBLEM IS WITH A HUB WHEEL SPEED SENSOR OR MORE LIKELY THE HARNESS LEADING TO THE HUB.

CHECK THE RESISTANCE AT THE HUB CONNECTION, IT SHOULD BE BETWEEN 900OHMS AND 1300OHMS. THEN SWITCH TO A-C VOLTAGE, IT SHOULD BE 100MV WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL BY HAND. IF BOTH CHECK OUT THE PROBLEM IS IN THE WIRING TO THE HUB.

THE RIGHT FRONT HUB USUALLY HAS A BEND, DOWNWARD THEN UPWARD NEAR THE CONNECTOR TO THE HUB. THAT IS WHERE THE PROBLEM USUALLY OCCURS.

NEW HARNESS WIRES CAN BE BOUGHT AT THE DEALER.

SOURCE: Service traction system

Hi mzcongeniali, I have a 2001 Montana that had this same problem just a few months ago. Most likely the problem is that one of the traction sensors has gone bad. The sensor is part of the wheel bearing and you will have to replace the whole wheel bearing in order to replace the sensor. They are found on the front wheel bearings on both sides. You might have only one that is bad or both could be bad. If you want you could get a used one from a auto salvage yard or buy one brand new. If you have an all wheel drive then you will want to check all four wheel bearings to find the bad one. I hope this helps.

Traction control and abs warning light comes on,how do I fix??

the ABS system is defective, probably one or more of the sensors.

Traction control system works with the ABS sensors to monitor to monitor traction slippage.

the traction sym. works with the ABS sym. sounds like you have a wheel speed sensor or a wheel bearing going out

Front wheelbearing assemblies have both been replaced on my 2004 Chevy Impala 3.8 still have service traction system keeps coming on. WHY????

Could be a rear wheel bearing that is bad. Being half deaf might not help so much in a noise related symptom. Best might have to take it to repair shop. Just have them pin point which one or what is the problem and do it yourself.

How can i turn off the traction control...it comes on periodically?

If the front hubs have been replaced, the problem lies in the harnesses to the wheel speed sensors. Here is a bulletin number for you, 03-05-25-008. It talks about replacing the harnesses to both front wheel speed sensors.

The traction control activates because the system thinks a wheel is slipping. If you slow down at a slow rate the abs might activate also.

Service traction system

Are the tires the same size all the way around?? The other thing that this could be is a bad wheel sensor, Go to Auto Zone and have them scan the car'e ECM for DTC codes. That would make things easier to see if it's the wheel sensors or the traction control module. Check all the fuses too, if the car had ABS problems and was disabled the traction control light will come on too. God luck and keep me posted, be glad to help

2003 Chevy Impala Service Traction Sytem show on Dash

I can't answer the question about the gas fumes, but I had the same problem last year with the "Service Traction Sysytem" message and the Trac and ABS lights coming on in my Impala. Mine turned out to be because of a bad wheel bearing, that was causing the ABS and traction system not to work. I'm not sure if you've experienced this, but another thing that would happen with mine was that I would go to brake and have a hard time depressing the brake pedal, almost like it was pushing back. That is the point when the Trac and ABS lights came on.

Service traction system message on dash

This light is usually caused by a problem in the ABS system. A problem in the ABS system will dissable the traction control system. you will need to have the computers scanned for trouble codes.
