it doesnt click like its the starter. the batteries has a charge. sometimes you turn the key and theres nothing

I've got the same problem in my 1996 Cherokee Sport. If you jiggle the shifter while holding the ignition key on, it will probably crank. I'm not sure what this means, and I am looking around on the web. I've seen at least two other similar complaints but no solid answer on how to fix it.

Maybe we should all get together.

I have a 96 Cherokee Sport with the same issue. Usually it starts fine on first start and then after driving it for a few minutes and shutting it off, when I try to start again -- nothing. I find that if you hold the ignition key on and move the shifter a little , it will start. I don't know what that means. I have seen this problem posted elsewhere on the web by at least two other jeep owners.. but the cause does not seem to be obvious. Maybe we should all get together.

when it wont start what will it do? if it sounds like the starter it will make a clicking sound but first make sure the battery cables are good its a common problem for the positive cable to go bad from corrosion on those jeeps

Have a 1992 Jeep Cherokee sport, 4 l.
Same issues.
2 causes
1) Neutral starter switch needs replacing or
2) Faulty Crank shaft sensor , needs to be replaced.
Throwing it in neutral , then start is a temporary solution to 1).
2) check sensor - may be corroded.

My jeep jeep cherokee sport vehicle will not start some time until i wiggle the gear in park or netural

This could be so many things. Bad battery connection, starter starting to go, fuel pump starting to go, relay/fuse broken. I would start with your battery and connections.

1992 jeep cherokee sport 2 door 4.0 inline six. Jeep was running fine except when you went to start it it took two cranks sometimes three then would start. Went to start it the other day and it took alot...

Sounds more like a timing problem than an O2 Sensor. Distributor out of Sync would be my guess. It ran better at Higher idles because the timing belt/chain was tight from tension at low idle the timing was off which caused your problems. Now the belt is either broken or so loose the timing is out and the vehicle won't fire. If it has a Distributor cap remove it and watch the rotor. If it turns the belt is intact but Timing may still be off.

I have a 92 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 straight 6. At times I turn the key but it wont start. Battery is good and starter is new. Then turn the key again and it starts. Could the starter be bad or just a bad...

Could be either of the two you mentioned or dirty terminal connections or a bad starter relay. Clean the terminal contact surfaces first and then you can begin testing other components if you need to.

My 1992 4. liter wont start in the morning. It starts and runs fine all day after the first start. Starting fluid worked but doesn`t any more

check the temperature sending unit and the manifold air temp sensor. Can also be related to a bad pump ballast resistor (on fender near master cyl.) as you have already figured out, is is a fuel problem. but fuel system injectors are triggered by computer that takes info from everywhere. Time to break out the manual and the multi meter and do some testing...Start with what I recommended though.

92 cherokee sport. Sometimes starts fine, somethimes startergrinds n runs down the battery.

Sounds like that starter is on it's way out the door. I suggest you change it before it leaves you somewhere.

1998 Jeep Cherokee Larado starts sometimes and wont start others

check for dirty / bent pins on connector. check wires at harness side of pins for any corrosion. Problem is likely not the computer, based upon what you've said.
