1998 Ford Escort won't start

Does it have the original battery, and does the battery have at least 12.3 volts?

are the inside of the battery terms dirty,corroided? do you know if motor alt is charging batt? how long did it run when you put new batt in? if it lasted about two days, its proubly not charging, also make sure nothing is being left on draining batt down, to check that, leave batt nuhooked pos side over night.

Check the igntion signal to the starter solenoid.

something serious here and i have no idea to be honest ---without lifting the bonnet and having a good look myself .could be anything but without a good look??

Sounds like your starter is bad.

If you indeed installed the positive battery cable last and the neg first you blew the computer possible, you will need a complete diagnosis.

Hi, you have what we call a draw on the battery. Something in the car is staying on when the key is off.

Have you checked compression? Ford 2.0L engines are bad about dropping exhaust valve seats. Also are you sure your valve timing is correct? Possible timing belt problem.
