I have 3 transmission trouble codes I need to repair so I can smog this 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0, 4W/D. It runs & drives well. It acts like the neutral safety switch is intermittent, sometimes it won't start. Tried swapping the starting relay--didn't help. Codes are P0700, P0705, & P1494 Thanks, Bill

Hi emissionwiz, Relay I referred to is located underhood in the relay & fuse box. Relay is controlled by the neutral sw. & energizes the starter solenoid when neutral sw. is in P or N. Besides the "check engine" light, the starting problem is another one, possibly relating to the neutral sw, The neutral sw. has 6 terminals, 2 starting, 2 B/U, & 2 to let the TCM know what gear the trans is in. Possible the neutral sw, is causing both starting & trouble code problems ??

    Thanks for your reply, Bill

I have a 1998 Jeep cherokee sport. Was driving today and it died. Now there is no spark and no power to fuel pump. Changed fuel pump today and it won't run. Recently replaced oxygen sensors too

U need to check the crankshaft position sensor. The fuel pump will only have power for 2 seconds I till it sees a crank signal. It' controls the asd relay which turns on your spark and fuel

2001 jeep Cherokee sport runs for a while and stops for 24 hours starting again like nothing hapenned

Hello
The engine and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM and TCM (Power Train Control Module, Transmission Control Module). When a problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport V6 4.0L 2X4. I have to manually shift from the low gear to the higher gears. The check engine light reads two codes p0700 and p07500. What do I need to do to get these...

both of those codes are related to the shift solenoid on it,more than likely you can feel a difference in the way it shifts, don't keep on driving it like that have a transmission shop test drive it and get a price on the repair, right now they can probably repair it for a decent price, good luck.
