Cannot seem to get the fuel pump to work a

Hi i have an mr2 that has been in storage for about five years, that was working ok when left but now i have tried to start it and cannot seem to hear the fuel pump kick in and no petrol to engine. i have tried to send power to the pump via the connections next to the fuel sender however still cannot hear the pump start up. the car was left with half a tank of fuel five years ago, so do you think that the fuel has damaged the pump over this time? i have put more fuel into the tank and have undone the fuel plug at the bottom of the tank to find that the fuel will discharge so i dont think the fuel has gone off. the car is the mark 2 model with the tank in the middle of the two seats, it is a 2000 cc 16 valve GTI. also if i put fuel into the air intake the car will then start until the fuel has gone.
over to you guys

Pull the fuel tank and flush it out with clean fuel also flush the fuel system (replace fuel filter) and install fresh fuel, the injectors will likely be ok, the fuel pump is another question, make sure it is providing pressure.

Fuel pump not geting power

usually the oil pressure switch is connected with the fuel system if this is bad it tells the ecm not to power the fuel pump because it thinks the engine has low or no oil in it.

The 1991 mr2 intermittently will not start. you

Sounds like you have a bad one-way check valve in the fuel pump. It is not serviced seperatly. A replacement fuel pump might be your answer.

The fuel pump access plate is behind the dash on the top of the tunnel just underneath the radio. If you are not knowledgeable about working around fuel I suggest you allow someone else to have the honor of replacing it.
Quotes will vary from shop to shop. Mine is $200 + Pump. Some more, some less... However; it may not be the pump as it could easily be a bad relay or a bad distributor. "both of which handle the power signal for the fuel pump" Let a shop look at it before you get into replacing things.
