My name is Debbie and I have a Ford Escort zx2 2000. I am trying to change the serpentine belt. I went to AutoZone and rented the "detensioner" to supposedly be able to handle this problem. The issue is....I cannot move the tensioner enough to get the belt on. From everything I have read it seems it should be fairly easy once the tension is off the belt. I have unmounted some hoses and the plastic shield by the passenger tire and still do not get enough movement to allow the belt to slip on. Could the belt be too small or is the tool too long or do I have to remove EVERYTHING under the hood? HELP PLEASE
Hi Debbie I will try to help. use the detensioner tool and put it on the tensioner pully and turn the bolt clockwise to release the tension. If you don't turn it far enough clockwise you won't get all of the tension off the belt after that the belt should slide right off GOOD LUCK!
