SOURCE: Rear hatch won't open

There is a little plastic circle on the inside trim, near the bottom of the rear hatch. Pop this off, and you can get a finger inside, or better yet a screwdriver. There is a metal piece labeled L3, I believe. It doesn't take much pressure, but you must manually push this and it will release the lock, and you can push the door open.

SOURCE: the rear hatch will not

There is a switch under the handle you press to open it.
If pressing it and you don't hear the solenoid click you have bigger problem then lost fob
Take it to a dealer to be serviced

SOURCE: 2005 Buick Rendezous rear hatch

If the remote opens the rear hatch your problem is likely the button on the tailgate itself. I replaced mine on my 2005 about 3 months ago for the same fault. One problem you may have replacing the button could be that the screws are corroded and difficult top remove. Other than that it is a pretty easy fix.

Not sure about your car, but on my Chrysler mini van the same problem happened. The problem was not the motor but the body control module. The unit had 2 relays, but the BCM actualy controls the unit. To replace the BCM was $450. I bypassed the problem by installing an on/off switch inside the car and activated the motor by by passing the BCM at the relay. That was 3 years ago, still works great. Your BCM may be the problem. Check the schematics of the relays and try doing the same.

As far as the hatch and the wiper in the rear: 1 common problem is the wiring at the top at the hatch. Due to the poor wiring layout here, this flexes quite a bit with opening and closing the hatch. These wires will tend to rub against the metal and short out. Check this out first, it's a cheap fix.

Before doing any other troubleshooting on a 2003 Ford Focus hatch release problem, try THIS... The hatch release button is a triangle. Push the button on the very bottom point of the triangle. For some reason, mine did not work when pushed in the middle and only works when I push it at the very bottom point... slightly off in any direction and it does not work. Strange but true.

Ford focus wiring

same thing happened to us.  My wife came home and said the rear brake lights were stuck on so I assumed it was the brake switch...not so. Took car for a ride and noticed rear wiper did not work and when I hit the brake the rear hatched opened and door locks blew out.  I started by looking at the wires in the gromet above the hatch and found almost all the wires were bare.  Therefore power was jumping  the bare wires and traveling back down the third break light and to the rear brake lights and visa versa.. a very dangerous situation.  The best that I can tell is the wires are so short in length that they pull and chafe every time you open and close the hatch...very poor design...   Note: we bought our vehicle brand new and some of the wires had electrical tape on them....seems mickey moused.

I can't lock the rear hatch door on my yukon. There is no key lock and the remote button locks all the other doors but the rear hatch remains unlocked. Also the button on the inside of the vehicle does not...

The lock is stuck in the "locked" position.
When you close the hatch, it is jamming the latch hook into the wrong area.

Manually open the hatch. Unlock the hatch (even tho the hatch is already open). there are two bolts holding the metal "loop", the loop has moved. Adjust the metal loop and close the hatch / lock it, etc.

2003 Envoy Both the rear windshield wiper and defogger quit

Have you checked the wire harness that goes between the hatch and the body? The constant opening and closing weakens the wires. Could also be the ground wire, I believe is inside the hatch. It could have come undone. If you have an owners manual, it should guide you to the defogger fuse. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
