When i use to lock the doors on the switch on the drivers door, it would do the ding, ding, ding noise, also when you opened your door the radio would shut off. but now once i open the door and hit lock the radio stays on and the door locks without the ding noise. I tried the passenger side the same way and it works fine. I've also had my daughter open the passenger sliding door when i tried it on the drivers side and it worked. As soon as she shut the sliding door, i tried it again and i would just lock and the radio would stay on. I don't have a clue where the problem is at. Thanks for your time in looking at this

It is likely the door ajar switch is defective in the drivers door, the switch is attached to the door latch in most cars these days and the door panel must be removed to replaced it. The system is controlled by a computer and that can be tested for faults by the dealer to avoid guess work, I recommend you have the diagnostics done 1st before any parts are replaced.
If you remove the interior light fuse just to turn it off and to turn off the dinging noise then for sure this will drive you nuts, That fuse is part of the shift interlock, what this mean you wont be able to get the car out of park. That interior light and ding is part of the GEM module so you have to fix the problem,in the driver door panel part of the door lock assemble is the switch, either you disconnect that switch or you replace the switch.
Do the interior lights come on when door is open? If not, you need to check driver's door jamb switch. The driver's door control module could also be the problem. If the interior light do come on, then I would suspect the ignition switch. You haven't changed out the radio recently? All chimes go thru the radio.
Try spraying wd40 into the door locking mecahnism area, spray it down very well. There is a switch in there that gets dirty and sticks. It worked for me.
Does the door ajar light come on when it makes the dinging sound? If so you probably have a stuck door sensor in the drivers door. The drivers door is the only one, I believe, that makes the dinging sound when it is opened when the ignition is on. Spray some WD-40 into the door latching mechanism and try to free up the micro switch, this is not a bad idea as preventative maintenance even if you are not having a problem.
It might be the door chime relay itself that is shorted out. First remove it and see what happens . You should have power to the radio. To properly test it use a voltmeter and hook it up to the door chime terminals , then depress the door switch and see if the voltage droped to zero. If it did then the culprit is the relay if it didn't then its either the switch or you have a short in the system.
Sounds like the wiring from the door to the main part of the car have been severed. Check by the hinges of the door the condition of the wires as the door sensor, controls for driver door windows and locks all pass through this gap to the vehicle.
I had what sounds like the same problem on a 2001 GTI VR6 and found that the solder joints on the driver's side door lock module were cracked. I removed the module and resoldered the joints. This corrected the remote functions, key in and lights on dinging and dome lights lighting when the door is opened. Still working on correcting the power mirrors but everything else is working again.
This URL has excellent instructions for removing the module. http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1015107
