2005 grand caravan shakes and the engine light come on
My car started to shake and the engine light started flashing, although it had been on for years. The mechanic changed to spark plug coils, but said he thought it needed a new computer!!!! What do you think?

your shaking could be a bunch of stuff. the procedure is to verify whether you are looking at a motor shake or a transmission shake, then inspect the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, do a compression test and a vacuum test to eliminate the basics like rings and valves. If you know that all those things are good, then you plug into the computer and look at sensor readings. "my car shakes" is a very vague statement. I had a service writer once who loved to write that the vehicle makes a strange sound; then I would test drive the car and I would hear ten strange sounds; so which one am I supposed to be fixing? Is your shaking definitely coming from the motor?
A flashing ck eng light is BAD. get it looked at ASAP there is a severe misfire and if you keep driving it, the cat converter will be damaged, if its not already
do a self test on your Jeep's computer by turning the ignition key off-on,off-on,off-on ( on is when the dash lights are on, off is one click back). The codes will either flash out on your check engine light in pairs, 5-5 is the end of the test. or if you have a digital odometer the codes will display there. Report back with the codes to help identify any problems.
You are experiencing a secondary ignition miss fire. The most likely cause would be one or more spark plug wires breaking down .If you can go to a Autozone parts store they can check the codes for free .PO 301 to PO 306 codes would be miss fire codes.:)
