What happened? My Car will not drive forward or reverse, front wheels are now locked, can't even push it.

This is a transmission related issue. If the vehicle starts but will not go in any gear you have an intrernal tranny problem. Will it move at all in neutral? Check and see if the trans fluid is at the proper level. I believe these transmissions are just drain and fill ( no filter change ) during fluid service. If the fluid level is correct and a good color, the internal differential may have come apart causing the lock up situation. If the fluid level is low ( suspect a leak especially after a service ) and low fluid will cause a no shift/drive issue

Transmission problem

Check the fluid level & colour, if it's low or burnt it will cause problems, it may also be the seals which will require transmission removal & overhaul

Check your transmission fluid level. This is done with the engine running. If it is low, please understand, that the add mark on a trans dipstick, usually means a pint, not a quart as your oil dipstick does.

Shift fine in forward gears but now does not shift into reverse. The truck will not pull in reverse. it is a 4 wheel dirve with a automatic trans.

Will it move if you put the transfer case in low range? If so the there's a good chance the reverse clutch is going out. Did it go all at once or did you notice some slipage? If it went all at once it could be a hydraulic problem or broken internal parts. It takes more pressure to apply reverse than the forward gears so it could a valve body or pump problem. Is it full of fluid, is the fluid dirty (brown or black)? I think Ford recommends changing the fluid at 30,000-50,000 miles change the transfer case oil too.

99 Mercury Cougar has reverse but no forward gears

check the oil lever in the transmisson assuming it's automatic, if the fluid level is fine then with it in gear running and the brake on look to see if the drive shaft is turning, if it is then you have a prboblem with the drive shavft depending on engine size and wheather it's front or rear wheel drive. if it's not turning then you have a transmisson problem. If this is helpful please rate.
