SOURCE: COLD RUNNING PROBLEM...NO POWER COLD...RUNS GOOD

Hello,

Have you checked the cold start switch?

There is a cold start switch amongst the wires connected to your engine. I don't know precisely where this switch is located on this vehicle model but a car electrician will recognize this on time.

I think the cold start switch is defective that's why you vehicle is having a cold running problem.

This switch i what make your vehicle start when engine is cold.

I believe this is the problem of your vehicle.

Give it a shot and the out come might be favorable.....

Regards.

SOURCE: egr vacuum at idle

See if the port going in to the intake from the egr is blocked, the port is big on the egr end and goes down in size and can clog.

97 tacoma runs a few seconds and dies. will stay running if you keep foot on gas for a few mins then let off. crankshaft sensor code, replaced it but still get code. could it be iac or tps

If the code for the crank sensor comes back, then there's still a fault in that circuit. Check for sensor resistance and wiring harness short or open. Crank sensor resistance should be 1,630 -2,740 ohms when cold. TPS would not cause those symptoms. IAC could cause rough idle but wouldn't affect higher RPMs. Bad coolant temp sensor could also be part of the problem. Bad sensor = ECM thinks engine is warmer than it is and provides too lean a mixture. But fix the crank sensor issue first since that affects the fuel injectors.

I have a high idle rpm

A few things to check would be the coolant temp sender, TPS sensor and last but not least check for a vacuum leak. These are just a couple things off the top of my head.

TPS probably not cause surging idle. Could be IAC motor, could be MAF sensor. If you dont have a check engine light I would be thinking IAC motor.

Won't idle in cold weather

The problem you describe could be result of a few different things: 1) Check your Idle Air Control (IAC) sensor/motor. This sensor is located on your vehicles, throttle body. The purpose of this sensor is to control the car's idle under various operating conditions including ambient temperature. In order for it to function correctly, the internal components must be clean (meaning, little or no carbon build up) and it must be undamaged. Sometimes the IAC can be cleaned; however, if this cleaning procedure is not properly done, the IAC can become damaged. This sensor is also sometimes called the "Cold Start" sensor. A new IAC will cost $50-$100. 2) Check you Coolant Temperature sensor. This sensor is located on the top of your engine and is screwed into your intake manifold. When this fails your car will experience starting problems when cold outside. A new Coolant Temp sensor will cost about $100. Take a look at these two solutions first. My guess is your IAC needs to be cleaned or replaced. Good Luck!

Please remember to rate this solution. Thanks!

Have a 1996 Mitsubishi Galant and need intstuctions on how to replace the Idle Air Control Valve

You'll have to remove the throttle body to replace the idle air control (IAC) valve. First, disconnect the negative ground cable from the battery. Then remove the vacuum line and air duct intake. Then disconnect the IAC and throttle position sensor (TPS) electrical connections. Remove the coolant hoses that are connected to the IAC. Disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle body. Now, remove the 4 bolts that hold the throttle body to the manifold and remove. Be careful with the gasket located between the throttle body and manifold and replace it in the same position. On your clean work surface, turn the throttle body over and remove the 4 phillips head screws holding the IAC to the throttle body. Clean the parts with a dry cloth but do not use solvents on the IAC or TPS. That's it!
