Smell of burning rubber on offside rear wheel. Intermittent. Kia Ceed 113bhp 1.6

Kia have investigated this but could not find the cause. they suggested it might have been a plastic bag melting on the exhaust. But it has happened 3 times in 2 weeks since I got the car back. Happens intermittently. Strong smell of burning rubber from offside rear wheel when I park the car. I have looked at it myself - nothing on exhaust. brake caliper seems to work ok and no sign of burning on brake pads or disc. Could be handbrake not disengaging properly ? Any other suggestions?

Hi there! Check out this link.

this link will take you to a forum full of people with CRV's who are having the exact same problem. It seems to be with almost every year of the CRV as well. Unfortunately Honda has no explanation or solution for this problem. I have a 2009 CRV and have not had this smell, but I have been having a ton of other problems with it. I have been incredibly dissapointed with this car, and will never get another Honda. I hope you have better luck than I, and be careful with it cause I think there are some serious problems with these CRV's. Good Luck!

you need a special tool avalable at most parts stores. its a disc brake piston turning tool. you have to rotate piston clockwise while pushing in on piston. you can fabricate something that enguages the slots and push and turn till all the way in.make sure to note position of slots and put them in same place as was before or the pin on the pads wont enguage the slot

Question moved to model category.

It isn't a module, just a switch. There appear to be 'issues'.

Burning smell coming from offside rear wheel Honda crv 2004

Could be incorrect brake piston seal size that is binding and not allowing the brake to release when not in use.. OR (more likely) your handbrake cable / mechanism is (partially/fully) locked on that wheel..

Smell of burning rubber on offside rear wheel. Intermittent. Kia Ceed 113bhp 1.6

I think you are on the right track with the hand brake/ parking brake. A vehicle can still drive if its slightly engaged and you would notice some sort of burning smell from the area. Try engaging the brake and disengaging the brake a few times and see if it releases completely. There may be an issue with the line causing it to "stick" here and there. Good luck! Cars are complicated but troubleshooting the small things before spending hundreds in labour is always wise!

I have a burning rubber smell coming from left rear on my 2001 silverado after driving

You may have a stuck brake shoe. The smell is more likely a burning carbon smell, which would be the break pad itself. You will need to crawl under and see if any visible burn marks or burned wires are present. Outside that, move to the actual break. 1 possible sign would be large amount of "dust" on the wheel and around the actual break, more than with the other 3 wheels.

My CR-V has a burning rubber smell from the offside rear wheel. What's the problem?

Is the tire worn from rubbing against anything?
Check your rubber boots on the CV joints of that wheels half shaft to makes sure they are not cracked. If the grease leaks out, there will be a lot of heat build up, and stuff will roast. Check wheel bearings while you are at it.
