I have an '06 Jeep Liberty as well and have had the same problem twice, once last May and again this March. Last year they replaced my speed sensor. Now the dealer is telling me my clock spring is gone, even though another mechanic told me that my horn won't work if the clock spring is gone and it does work. I'd say this is a common defect with the Liberty and the dealer will do anything to "fix" the problem to keep making money.

I did too. I found the problem to be a broken wire about 4" from the connector to the speed sensor. This seams to be a very common problem and an easy fix you can do yourself. I did too.
