On a recent trip, the speedometer went crazy then totally stopped working. the odometer stopped working which makes sense as
the computer thinks the vehicle isn't moving.
the engine light also came on. Auto Zone testing indicated it was the speedometer sensor.
is there any thing else this could be?
My guess is that the speed sensor has gone out or the wires that go to it have been knocked off somehow.
I had similar problem with my 2002 Jeep Liberty when it was new. Speedometer went crazy when I turned on the heater. As i turned up the level of air, the speedometer was directly affected. Turned out it was a loose grounding wire in the dash, and the air pressure from the heater caused it to move and lose grounding. I would guess you have a loose wire somewhere. But on the plus side, you aren't putting as many miles on your odometer...

Same problem and almost the same scenario. Everything else on the panel is working and Jeep is driving fine. My Jeep is a 2005 Liberty Sport. If it is a sensor or a loose wire would it be expensive to fix?
I have the same problem. Actually I have been living with it for a while but it does annoy me to no end. I had the speed sensor replaced and it worked for about two months and then the speedometer was just wacky again. I have a feeling that a wire is exposed or frayed but how do I go about looking for where the problem could be?
