Did you over heat warning message come on " Urgent shut off engine" or check coolant message? My coolant message came on but once car warmed up, it was late summer. No leakage but coolant level was low; added some coolant. Then it happened again but once car warmed up the check message disappeared. Then a few days later I got the Urgent Shut off Engine message! Thankfully I was able to pull off road and shut down immediately. Had it towed to Caddy shop. My water pump had gone out. New Pump and replaced all hoses. Then a year later check coolant light came on again, once car warmed up, light went off. This time tho a small leak in the radiator. My husbank put in a new radiator. Car has 117K miles and a few weeks ago outside temp 35, running late for work and didn't allow car to warm up but just a minute or two and when I puled away the check coolant light came on; but once the car warmed up (temp gauge needle in center) the light went out. Being the car is 17 years old I try to treat her like a baby and not push her so I do let the engine warm up before driving away. Do you have to add oil between oil changes? This is normal for the Northstar engine; your regular garages or full service stations don't know this; also make sure if you aren't using an authorized Cadillac garage that they put the right amount of oil; they want to put less than what is required. Not sure if this is really a solution more comments than anything... :)

I have a 96 sls caddy that is over heating it has no leaks but is pouring out the over flow, any ideas

Have a pressure test done on the radiator and this will determine if you have a system leakage problem in the heads or gaskets. Have you thermostat check for correct operation. Check the viscous fan hub if you have one or check the electric fans for correct operation if you don't. Check for correct belt tension and check for rubbish between the a/c condensor and the radiator

Changed the thermostat car still getting hot pouring out of the overflow only place we can find leaking what causes this

the radiator is partially blocked, and heat transfer from water to air cannot be acheived, the radiator, if in good condition can be taken apart and the tubed cleaned, if the radiator is showing signs of fin deteriation, the whole thing must be replaced.

New thermostat fitted radiator cap had tested for blown gasket sees ok. Radiator looks very clean inside. Runs fine for plus munis 40 km [hard driving) and suddenly overheats pushing water into...

The radiator sheds heat at a specific rate. Increasing air flow increases that rate a bit, but even with increased air flow, there is a specific rate.

When you start out, there is a "cold reservoir" in the radiator — without shedding any heat at all, for a while the cold water in the radiator will keep the engine cool.

If the heat from the engine exceeds the heat the radiator can shed, as soon as the radiator water hits the temperature of the engine, you will have overheating.

If you have a head gasket leak, you are injecting heat directly into the water, heat that ought to go out the tailpipe.

If some of the tubes in the core of the radiator are not flowing, the ability of the radiator to shed heat will be diminished.

I am thinking it is either a head gasket leak/cracked combustion chamber, or a radiator that does not flow water through all the tubes.

A lean fuel mixture will generate a lot more heat than one that is richer. The coloration of the spark plug insulators can be helpful in assessing the mixture.

My sun roof leaks and no o0ne seems able to fix it 2004 ion3

Check your water drain holes. There should be one in each corner. The older Saturns would get blocked and the water would back up. On those you can access the drain tube on either front side at the kick panel. I've not tried to fix an ION so I'm not sure how the drains work. Open the sun roof and pour a little water in each corner. The water should drain out behind the front wheels and somewhere near the rear. If it doesn't you have blockage. Find the drain tube and run a wire through it. Make sure your are careful because you can pierce the rubber tube. Good luck.

Possible you have a vaccum leak or blockage. The direction of flow for heat and air is controlled by way of vaccum lines.

Moon roof leaking tube in corner stopped up.

If you can access the top side of the tube without removing the moon roof, you can take an air compressor hose with a rubber nozzle, jam the tip in the hose and blast it with quick bursts of air. To insure that you got the blockage out, pour some water in that area and watch around the wheel well for the water to flow out.

Coolant system problems

engine cooling should be a close circuit. there should have not over flow. however, the is a over flow container in the from of the car to catch any overflow.
the little tube may be the overflow tube that suppose to go to the overflow container.

96 Jeep Country-Heater blowing warm; NOT hot

unless you got visable signs of leakage its not heater core, but it could be pluged with sediment. take off both heater hoses and flush it both ways until it runs clear. you can also mix a little baking soda and water and pour in core and let set for a while and then flush.
