SOURCE: replace the rear view mirror
Gently tap the base of the mount upwards. I just replaced mine and I thought there was a cover over the winshield mount, turns out it is just pushed on to the wedge that is mounted to the windshield. Good Luck, webree

Im assuming this is the Series I 3800? If so, if you can email me I can send you some directions on the process. Its for a Series II 3800 but it should be similar. If you cant email me, post up and I'll see what I can do.

I had the same problem. My mirror has map lights so I disconnected the wiring harness from the mirror. I had trouble getting this done, but there is a small clip you must pull back to release the wiring. Once I had the mirror free the button that you must glue back on the windshield is attached to the mirror by a strong metal spring clip. I placed a screw driver under the button and popped it out of the clip. Make sure you mark the outside of the windshield first before you clean off the old glue so you will know where to glue it back. I just placed a small piece of duct tape on the outside windshield. MAKE SURE YOU GLUE THE BUTTON ON CORRECTLY, so the mirror will slide back on. I let the new glue dry for several hours before I tired to re-attach the mirror. The directions said 15 minutes, but that is not long enough. I also sprayed the clip with some WD-40 so it would slide on the button easier.
Hope this helps

You will have to pry up on the small cover that keeps the mirror on the piece that actually touches he windshield. The trick for me is now how to get the piece back on! Small sledge hammer and a block of wood might just do the trick! :-) Be gentle!
