1999 Audi A6 gear shift not moving, even with break applied

A few days ago, I set the alarm off from my keys on my 1999 Audi A6 in a parking lot to find the car. Since then, the gear shift doesn't work normally, even if the car is on and the break is applied. The light indicating the break doesn't turn off, making the car un-drivable. I have been able to get it to work only when I apply the break and SLOWLY release it, which sometimes gives me a split second to move the gear shift into drive. I have been doing this to drive the car but it takes up to 5 minutes at times. How can I make the gear shift operate normally again?

I'm also not sure if using the alarm is the reason for this problem, but it's when it started

The lock shift solenoid that works withe break pedal has gone bad... it's located next to or In front of the shifter.. on some vehicles. You have a key slot that you can use another key or small screw driver in it to unlock the shifter. Just replace that and it should be fine..

Sounds like you are having problems with your built-in alarm system. Like most systems in your Audi, you can read the error codes stored in the controllers. It takes a tool normally only a dealer has (VW or Audi) or an adapter like the VAG Com. (Google it)

I also think you can disable the alarm system and just use the key.

Could the lock button on your remote be stuck? Use a different key/remote. (leaving the suspect key at home.) The keys/remotes can be taken apart....

SOURCE: Prob's with my Audi A6 2003 Auto 3.0 V6 (gearbox)

Doubt it as the fault suggests you need to look into the range sensor. If similar to Renault there is a switch on the gearbox that senses where the select lever is (at the gearbox end). If the display is wrong then the sensor needs looking at and either it will need to be adjusted into a set position by moving it, or perhaps the connector to it or wiring to/from it have a fault.

I have a 1999 Audi A6 quattro my right brake light went out I went to to switch the bulb and the bulb was OK but wont come on now I can't put my shift gear into gear without turning my lights on

There's should be a shift interlock that prevents it from being put into gear unless the brakes are on; check if the fuse it good for the brake lights; it seems to somehow be tied in with the parking lights, which may be feeding into the brake light circuit.

My stick Audi A6 Quatro had some gear slip when I shifted, then a lot of gear slip, and now the car doesn't move. I can shift into any gear without using the clutch. The RPMs go up, but car does

Your friction plate is kaput. Replace clutch system. Sounds like the pressure plate needs attention as well. No idea of price but get prices of "clutch kit" on the web and you can have an idea.

My audi A6 2.5T has been parked for about a month. Everything was fine when we parked it, but when I got in to drive it, I put my foot on the brake and pulled the handle from park to the drive position...

NO, it may be the linkage from the shifter to trany that broke off, or a bad selector switch that tells the trany and yoiu what gear you are in, there are a lot of electrionic in an audi so if that switch is bad it would cause this problem, also the linkage is very important, if you move the shifter and the cable is not connected to trany then the trany will not move its like you never left park,

Audi Quattro A6 will not go into drive

It's the brake pedal switch. There is a switch down on the pedal arm that closes when you press the pedal down, and sends a sensing voltage to the controller, telling it the brakes are applied. This allows the transmission lock to disengage so you can shift out of Park. When that switch fails, the lock won't disengage. You need to replace that switch and you'll be fixed.
