Thought it was the connection to the solenoid. If I tapped it, or if I jumped across the 2 solenoid poles the car would start. Was very erratic, it would start then it wouldn't. Now nothing I do works. The battery is good, but sounds dead (often with a clicking noise like bad solenoid.) Won't turn starter even if I jump across solenoid poles. Could it be a bad solenoid and or starter? If I buy a new starter, will it come with solenoid mounted? Car has 3.0 duratec engine. Thanks for any help.
All I had to do on a sable was to replace the belt but look at the battery there should be a wire coming from the battery going to another solenoid mounted under the hood and then going down to the starter get a 12 volt tester and see if you have power going to this solenoid cause it could be dead on one end and not going down to the starter

Problem solved. It was a bad starter. Thanks for the input.
The car won't even make a noise when turning over. If someone taps on the starter it will turn over but won't stay running
