Also will not play cd
Do any of the system sounds in your vehicle work - e.g warning gong, direction indicator noise - if they don't then there may be a problem with the amplifier (located under front seat on left hand side of vehicle). The whole system works on fibre optic communication between the head unit and the amp. This could be an expensive job if the amp has blown (it can be vulnerable to damp under the seat - what were SAAB thinking of when positioning it here ?
If the CD doesn't play either - does it eject and load OK though ? this could point to a fuse or relay failure rather than the amp. Check the relevant fuses/ relays in the car - refer to owner's manual for the relevant locations.
I have a 2003 9.5 Arc. Mine problem is similar but intermittent....radio shows "locked", turn signal indicators do not function, dash (speedometer, tack, turbo, fuel) does not light up. Have taken it to the dealer. They unplugged everything and could not see any connection issues. They simply put it all back together and the problem seemed to go away for awhile....now it is back but with a random pattern. Before this, it was predictable....45-55 minutes and it would die. The CD does eject. The tech at the deal said these systems are all intertwined and go through a BUS at the radio. He thinks the problem may be with one of three a faulty "modules". These are expensive to replace. It would be trial and error.

i have the same problem, no sound out of the radio (and it won't turn on) and the turn signals don't "click" - given that this happened about 2 weeks ago when it was snowy and wet, I'm wondering if it is the amp.
I also have the same problem. Last week I took my 2004 9-3 ARC through a touch less car wash and as I was leaving I heard a snap and my radio quit working. There is power to the radio unit but the display box will not light up. The CD will eject and load but does not play, and there is not any noise coming from the direction indicator. I have checked some of the fuses with no problems but did not check the relays. Thanks for the info Small Island I will see what I can find.
