Battery wont charge

My ford 1997 f150 4.6 will not charge the battery this started after i replaced the alternator that was bad.after installing the new alternator my battery light was on and would not go off. I had the new alternator checked and was told for the auto parts store that it was not putting out enough amps, they said it was the new alternator that it was bad . so I swapped it out for another new alternator and still have the same problem..I have checked all grounds and wiring. and all fuses ...

the voltage regulator is built into the alternator and they say the alternator is good..

I had this exact same problem ... under the hood onthe left side of the firewall where your starter solenoid and fuseable links are there is a little container type thing that holds a 20 amp fuse that fuse is probably blown the little container is on the firewall right below the fuseable links

Have you tried the Voltage Regulator?

  • Anonymous Jan 11, 2009

Since the battery has seen two bad alternators, you may want to have battery tested it could have a shorted or bad cell. That is the only other alternative if all wiring and fuses have been checked.

Truck will not start after replacing alternator

Sounds like your battery is suspect, have a load test done on your battery at any walmart, also a bad starter will act the same way sometimes, when you have a good battery and a good alternator, also make sure ALL your battery cables and posts are not corroded.

2000windstar havenew and good battery and new agood altanater wont charge

If the alternator was not charging before you replaced it, the problem could be a bad connection between the battery and alternator, or a problem with the computer.
The computer controls alternator output.

Fix, my ford plz

Recheck the Alternator. if it bleeds the battery down, the diodes are bad in the alternator. an easy test is to diconnect the battery cable for the night. if the battery doesn't bleed down, it is the alternator

I installed a new alternator, batter, and starter in my 1997 Ford Expedition and my truck wont start unless you hit the starter. All the wires are good so what else is there to check?

Sounds like you still have a bad starter. You can get a bad one from the parts store. Go back and have them test it. Or could be cylinoid.

1997 Monte Carlo battery wont stay charged after a jump. The car will warm up then when turned off won't turn over it makes a clicking noise when ignition is terned.

Could be a bad battery, and or alternator, if the alternator does not charge the battery when the vehicle is running your battery will drain causing no start.

Got a mk2 ford mondeo estate 2.0 16v zetec that wont start there is battery power but the engine wont turn over. maybe the fuel pump isnt working properly

If the car won't turn over your immediate problem is with the starter or the battery. subsequently if you have a bad battery you could also have a bad alternator not charging the battery. You problem isn't with the fuel pump as it does not assist the engine in cranking.

97 toyota avalon was running went dead while driving ,now wont start lights go dim,abs light and traction lights come on when jump started

Sound like you have a bad alternator, poss bad battery too.If you can jump start it with a volt meter check voltage at battery should have above 13.5 volts, do this after you unhook jumper cables and engine running. If bad voltage reading replace alternator make sure you charge battery before starting engine with new alternator or it could damage alternator. If good voltage have battery check.Hope this helped.
