More than likely one of the shift solenoids is bad.

Honda civic automatic transmission work

Check all trans sensors if it’s high mileage and fluid has not been changed regularly then you can bet a complete $2,000-$3,500 rebuild is due!

D4 FOR LIGHT ON UPON CYCLING KEY TO RUN POSITION AND VEHICLE WILL TAKE LONG TO SHIFT AND START SLIPPING.

d4 light on means there is a trouble code stored in the trans computer. will need to pull codes to diagnose.

98 Honda Civic Ex

Would need more info on the heat/ac problem. But on the shifting problem check under the hood and make sure when the shifter is moved the linkage moves. If not the shift cable is most likely the problem, but check at the shifter to make sure.

My honda civic 98 hx m4va transmition type, the trans drives fine exept when gearing up I can't feel when shifting and rpms goes up and down,I replace the transmition and still doing the same, also when...

I have a 1998 Civic HX 2DR as well and mine also takes a moment to engage when you press the gas. I don't know if this is normal or not? I just bought the car and I need to replace the trans fluid only because I don’t know if there is Honda oil or another brand in it. The CVT transmissions only can use Honda's CVT oil. There is a recommend alternative oil but based on the manual it’s only for temporary use until you can replace it with the Honda oil otherwise it will cause damage to the transmission over time.

the shift points in the trans are electroniclly controlled if they are going bad witch is normally the case with the accord auto trans.you can either have the trans rebuilt or get a new one.

Automatic gears

Honda transmissions,as well as most other overdrive transmissions, should be driven at all times in drive 4,or the overdrive position, with the exception of severe driving conditions, such as towing a load, extremely hilly terrain,or long uphill grades, the trans should be taken out of overdrive, and placed in the drive 3 position. This is to prevent the perpetual shifting back and forth of the trans from 3rd into 4th,back to 3rd,back to 4th,back to 3rd,that would eventually damage both the 3rd and 4th gear clutch discs and components.
