1999 EB Expedition broken wipers

There was a lot of snow on my windshield and when I turned on the wipers the passenger side worked but the driver side got stuck about 2/3 of the way and now the passenger works ok but the driver stops at 2/3 and the passenger runs into it. Also, if I move the driver side wiper with my hands, I can pull it out way over the side of the car. What is wrong with the wipers?

Take the cap off the bottom of the wiper with a screw driver and in most cases the nut under the cap is loose take it to auto zone or napa and ask them to take a quick look for you because they install wipers for free

Passenger Side Windshield Wiper Broken

Hi Jill,
The first thing to check is a 13mm nut that holds the wiper arm in place.See if you can move the wiper arm freely back and forth. There is a nut at the base of that wiper arm,Lift up a cover that is hiding the nut. If it comes loose from being froze from ice or snow. Put the wiper in its rest position and tighten the nut back up.

Either the wiper arms are loose or stripped on the pivots or the wiper linkage is broken. Try tightening the arm to pivot bolt. If that doesn't work, remove the plastic cowling and examine the linkage. You can buy new linkage for it.

You will need to find where in the linkage the problem is. I would start taking it apart to see what is and what isn't working correctly. Autozone website has free repair manuals available online.

2009 Touareg passenger side windshield wiper arm does not move but driver side does

sounds like the connecting rod between both wiper arms either broke or one of the keepers popped off under the connector for that arm..since the wiper system IS NOT designed to wisk snow off the window once accumulated, this can an does happen.. even seen motors get burned out doing this..cleaning the window first will save this issue and the equiptment. need to acess this arm<take off the vented peice below the windshield and everything should be visible there..repost findings

You may want to remove the cover over the wiper nut and tighten it down. Make sure you don't exceed the torque settings. The nuts have a tendency to back off causing the wipers (or one wiper) to slip.

Remove the wiper arm and check the serrated hub to see if it sheared a pin holding it to the shaft. If it is ok, then you may have a broken/loose part in the linkage. Good luck!

Windshield wiper

Check to see if the wiper motor moves the passenger side. If so, You may need to tighten the nut that connects the arm to the motor. Mine was stripped out because or snow & ice. So, I went to home depot and found a lock washer to fit.
