Alarm goes off when I turn on the car but it will not let me start up the engine. Occasionally, It gives me buzz/honking warning sounds when I open the hood or doors. I've lost the alarm button. There is a silver toggle switch by the hood release button under drivers dash on the left side. I've switch it, put the keys in and tried starting it up with no luck. I've' tried switching it baking and forth , putting keys and turning it on first, undoing the battery, clicking door locks. Nothing worked. Probably not **** it right, the instructions I found said to push and hold the switch but you can't push it nor hold it,only toggle. I notice my passenger door lock button doesn't unlock any doors and my drivers side only unlocks its own doors. I think switching out the battery out triggered it. the first time the alarm went off when the new battery was disconnected/ reconnected the alarm stopped and I was able to drive the car. It came on again when I had my hood up trying to starting my car. Doing the battery thing didn't work this time. I can't start it at all you can here it trying to start but the alarm is preventing it.
Factory security does not have toggle switches as far as I know so it is probably an aftermarket system. Try one of two things, turn the toggle switch the oposite direction with battery disconnected. Reconnect the battery and try again, the horn will beep a few times when you reconnect. try starting. If that doesn't work, disconnect the battery and turn the key to the on position and reconnect the battery and the horn will sound but will go off get in the car and try to start. It should start and run normally. shut car off, then you should be able to return the toggle switch to the previous position If this happens again turn the toggle switch to the opposite position with the batterry disconnected and turn the key switch to the on position and reconnect the battery and start when started go see a service that installs aftermarket systems and they should be able to reset it security system Hope this helps

If the alarm is factory alarm , then there will be no valet switch.--------If the alarm is after market alarm, then here will be valet switch. Its like a toggle switch. This is to disable alarm.---------
The valet switch is usually located in the lower left kickpanel. Start off by turning the key on, then flip the valet switch the other way. If done correctly, the alarm LED will light up solid. Turn the key off.
The lower left kick panel is where the left foot would be resting. There's a panel next to the left foot area. Look for a toggle switch in that area.
------------
But if its after market alarm, and there is no toggle switch, then you need to get the alarm module connection wire disconnected.--------- Getting it done at dealer or at professional auto part store will be helpful. But if its original factory alarm, then dealer can only disable the alarm.-------
-----
Basically they charge between $50 to $100.As per time consumed. The alarm is connected to ignition, fuel pump, computer and other electrical parts like door and modules.------ So exact connection has to be disconnected.-------------
If there is no valet switch seen, then getting it disabled at dealer will be helpful. But also consult, local auto parts store. Some have exact schematics for alarm connections, so as per that they can also do it, if its after market alarm.--------
This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

If you have a "factory system", cycling the key in the ignition on-off 5 times will shut off the alarm.

Your Central locking wire is short from any one door side. Please check it properly.

SOURCE: I have a 1999 Toyota Corolla and electronic key
I am having the SAME problem with my 99 Corolla, Still searching for a way to disable the factory security system, for the last two years I have the vehicle hotwired through the headlights to start it. (1 wire to battery positive, 1 wire to starter hot lead, touch them together.) unfortunately this has proven very dangerous as the vehicle will start even in gear, and take off without a driver. additionally, because the alarm is going off continuously, the battery dies if not disconnected after every use. I found the fuse in the relay box that disbles the alarm, and the car starts fine, unfortunately, It it also the fuse for the alternator, so that solution will not work either. If anyone has found true way to disable the system, PLEASE offer your suggestions!
