SOURCE: location of the starter

On both 2V and 4V 3.0L the starter is located on the side of the motor that would be the front of the car. According to Ford it looks like this is covered with a splash shield under the bumper cover that must be removed to gain access.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: where is the starter located

It is bolted to the side of the engine. The side that is closest to the radiator. Look up from the bottom. If it is a DOHC motor it is on the front side of the transmission bellhousing.

How can I test starter on a 1989 ford taurus

Depends on the problem.
You can remove the starter and have it bench tested at an auto parts store.
Or you can use a meter and check for voltage on the terminals.
The small wire engages the solenoid to make the starter drive turn.

I need to replace the starter solenoid on a 2003 ford taurus

The starter solenoid is attached to the starter unlike the older Fords. You will have to remove the splash guard to gain access to the starter. It is located on the front side of the motor.

You should have a starter draw of about 250-300 amps during cranking. Disconnect the fuel or ignition system and crank for several seconds to get a good reading.
