Truck had not been turned on for about 4 days. Noticed rear tail lights flashing on and off. Has a trailer brake unit that was also lit up inside the cab. Turned trailer brake unit off . . . truck tail lights stopped blinking. Tried to start truck, battery dead. Had both the battery and Trailer units checked . . . both GOOD. Recharged Truck Battery. Sofar its still working. Would like to know WHAT CAUSED the trailer lights to start blinking?

still sounds like the timing belt/chain to me,especially since it just shut off goin down the road, had a 93 that did the same thing,dodge has a kind of safety switch that if the timing belt breaks the engine will shut down to keep you from tearing anything else up.

I'd get a 12vdc test light if you don't have one already & start from plug, and keep probing back from there. It may be as simple as a bad connection under truck where joined into harness.

The truck is protecting itself from the load impose by the trailer.. Chk the plug on the truck for wire gauge size. Turn any electrical loads off on the trailer, any and all. If fuse still blows then the fuse is either underated or the trailer has a dead short. In fact turn trail main power panel of. All lights work you say. So ck the inverter for defect byturning off the inverter on one of the trailers.

Check for blown fuse. There is a fuse specifically for those lights.

Hey Boon,
The pinouts for a 7-way plug are as follows:
Seven wire Trailer plugs:
Horse, stock or utility trailers:
White = Ground - 1
Blue = Electric Brakes - 2
Brown = Tail and clearance lights - 3
Black = Battery, aux power - 4
Yellow = Left turn/Brake - 5
Green = Right turn Brake - 6
Orange or Purple (not both) = Auxilliary or Reverse - 7
Recreational Vehicle:
White = Ground - 1
Blue = Electric Brakes - 2
Green = Tail and clearance lights - 3
Black = Battery, aux power - 4
Red = Left turn/Brake - 5
Brown = Right turn Brake - 6
Yellow = Auxilliary or Reverse - 7
In both cases 4 is battery and 7 is reverse, aux or not used.
Double check your wiring using these lists as a reference.

This should get us closer to the answer.
