How many liters of ATF needed

I have a 1997 Galant 24V VR6 and i'm thinking of changing the oil or the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) of my transmission. how many liters of ATF do i need to fill it up? what is the best way to check the correct level of ATF; is it while engine is running or not? thanks guys!!!

Engine needs to be warm to check fluid. needs to be in park and then you check fluid level, pull dip stick and wipe off then reinsert and remove for corect reading, I can't help you with capacities but they should me in you owners manual. I hope I have helped you, my advice is free if I have helped in any way please grade me as a solution, if not please clarify and I will help you as much as you need. I am needing to learn this website, and have to justify to everyone that works for me to me good samaritans

    when you change the fluid, be sure and replace filter. I have had filters stop up on me, and make you think the transmission is bad.

    Also Galants had bad capacitors in the transmission computer, I have one like that it is a 1982 model Good luck, car-parts.com if you need a part...Hope you are able to solve from my info

The automatic gearbox oil capacity (drain & refill) is 2,6 ... 3,0 litres.
The front differential oil capacity is 0,75 litres. Oil type: SAE 75 W / 90 Synthetic.
The rear differential oil capacity is 1,5 litres. Oil type: SAE 90.

filler aperture on front sider of gearbox, usually has a red sealing cap. must use VW ATF only available from VW dealers. oil change quantity 3 liters.

a bolt on the bottom of the transmission pan like a 14 mm i think but righty tighty lefty loosy...lol bolt out fluid will drain... make sure its not black because then you took the oil pan plug out. but you should see red fluid poor out Transmission Fluid Type
