Hello! I have a 2004 X Type Jaguar which has lately been doing a ringing sound that comes from like the left side of my steering wheel or behind it. This sound is almost like to phone and it only occurs when I turn it on or right after I turn off the car. Do you have any ides what this problem may be? Should I worry about it?

SOURCE: Siffness with steering , squeaking noise from the front wheel.
Low on fluid in the pump, if it leaking from the steering rack then it needs replacement, If theres is a squeal then the belt is loose or the pump itself is bad. If you have a bad creaking noise then the ball joints need replacement, bad ball joints can lock up the steering but the worst it can do is drop the front of the frame to the ground and which could be very dangerous when driving..

Too bad I am not at work I could call on a price for a bearing. To be honest that is not too bad of a price on a bearing installed. Most Jag parts need to be purchased from Jag. A typical price for a sealed hub bearing unit is about $140 retail for a chevy corsica(just did 2 on one on monday) to about $300-400 on a ford super duty. and that is not including labor. You need air tools, a torque wrench and lock tight thread locker for this job. And something to remove any corrosion from mounting surfaces
1. jack up car, take wheel off.
2. remove brake caliper
3.remove rotor
4.remove whats holding bearing on. Either one big nut on outside or three to four bolts that hold it to the knukle.
this is how most cars are now,if its rear wheel drive its a peice of cake ,fwd is a little more difficult.

The automatic adjuster on my 1998 XKR steering wheel has stopped working - it just 'clicks' as if a cog has worn and will not come forward. (it still moves up and down)
Anyone any ideas please. John.
