Check engine light keeps coming back on after already replacing oxygen sensor P1150, now it says P0174 bank 2, P0440 x 2 system too lean
To kinda give you an idea where to start, go to this page http://repairpal.com/OBD-II-Code-P0440 let me know what you think after reading this...
Testimonial: "Yes I sure do smell gas after turning off the car in the garage. I did look at the gas cap and don't see anything wrong with it. There are no gaskets as it is all plastic. How would I change it with that plastic strip holding it on? Do you have n item number? thank you"
Let's start somewhere simple... the gas cap...is the seal around it worn out looking? or cracked? The code 440 is being thrown at you because there are gas fumes or vapors escaping from the system instead of being recirculated. Do you smell gas after you park the car or under the hood? let me know
well before we get carried away, is the smell coming from the gas cap or from the front of the car? This is where you get to look a little odd by sniffing around the car :) noses come in handy sometimes...Meantime, I'll go get the part number
Then the gas cap can be purchased at autozone. You can get it from the dealer too, but why wait for it? The strap that holds the cap to the car may be detachable from the old gas cap to place on the new one...Im not in front of it, so I really cant tell. The main thing is getting a new cap, especially if you are smelling gas coming from the old one. the price is around 9 bucks at autozone. Once you replace the cap, go drive around for awhile and see if your service light turns off, or just have autozone turn it off for you. If it doesn't come back on, yay! If it does, then you'll need to read the codes again. So go get the cap first...
Lets hope that the codes don't come back and something simple fixed your problem :) Go drive on a freeway or highway where the speed can get the system really going and see if the light comes back on. If not, YAY! If it does, let me know.

SOURCE: lexus rx300 0171 system too lean already clean
i would change mass sensor any way they cause lots of problems
Testimonial: "thanks I change the mass air flow sensor the engine light didn't come back on for 2 weeks already, thanks a million"

What was the code? lean mixture? If so make sure there is no leak in the exhaust. I have worked on a lexus suv, but it was an 89. It had a lean mixture code. After examination I noticed a exhaust leak which was not apparent at first, there is a section in the exhaust the is very thin, and prone to leakage, causing the lean mixture code.
SOURCE: Check engine light is on
no such thing as a catalytic computer... there is a catalytic converter ... part of the exhaust system so they may now be "guessing" that it's an O2 sensor. take the car to autozone... they will scan the codes for free.... post the codes here tho the lads and lasses there are pretty clever and will probably tell you what the codes mean.
SOURCE: 99 RX300 Engine code keeps coming up lean
I just had the same thing happen to my 99 RX300. I replaced the MAF sensor and cleaned the throttle body. We cleared the codes and check engine light came on again... with a knock sensor code. Had to replace knock sensors. Found some great info on how to do that here. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=41266&mode=threaded Car drives great now!
SOURCE: check engine light on, replaced oxygen sensor before catalyst,
System Too Lean (Bank 2)
Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust.
Note: This DTC is very similar to P0171, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

Thanks.

I'm sorry Mr Grant I'm a single retired nurse none of this looks familiar to me. I do at times have a hard time keeping my car started. Do any of the sensor numbers relate to this that I have given? Do you suggest a new gas cap? I'm really at lost for what to do, I've spent so much already on new tires, alignment & now front brakes plus the O2 sensor a few months ago.
the smell is coming from the gas cap and yes i did take it to auto zone & was told P0174 Bank 2 and P0440 x 2 system lean
oxygen sensor P1135 replaced on Jan 10, 2012
since i tightened the gas cap the smell of gas is gone. since auto zone re-set the codes (erased them) when i took the car in they couldn't get any codes to come up, so guess i have to wait until it happens again
