Any relay can be tested to some degree, but to be certain, just buy an inexpensive relay and try it in there,
The Automatic Shut Down relay is just one of many relays on your car. It takes battery power from the battery, and when activated by the computer, will pass that power on to the fuel injectors and to the ignition coil, some applications also it will work on the fuel pump. If the ASD relay is bad, no injector pulse, no power to coil, etc.-car won't start. When key is turned to off, the relay is not active-I think that may be why it's called auto shutdown relay.

Where is located the auto shut down relay of a 5.7 L engine

Should be under the hood. This seems to be pretty common so your local dealer should know exactly what going on if you tell them the story.

It is the Auto Shutdown Relay located in the power distribution center under the hood, the black box with all the fuses and relays. Replace the relay, and check all the 30amp and 50 amp fuses. You might try removing the relay and reinstalling it first, to see if it will reset.

My 91 jeep wrangler 4.0 will shut down all power at all speeds from idle to driving on the interstate. I jumped out the auto shutdown relay and it works fine but i cannot find the auto shutdown switch to...

There is no switch. The relay gets a signal from the computer. If there is no signal from the crank position sensor the computer will not close the relay. If it runs with the relay bypassed, chances are good that the relay itself is bad.

What would cause the auto shutdown relay to click after i try starting it and will start.

Mostly likely it is the Relay that is beginning to go bad. One way to test this is to use the Spare Relay of the same Type (size and shape). OR switch out a similiar Relay of the same type (size and shape) THAT IS A NON-ENGINE OPERATION RELAY. Check again the operations. If the "new" Relay in the Auto Shutdown Relay no longer clicks, then it most likely was the Relay that should be replaced. However, IF you used the "old" Relay in another function, put your finger on this Relay while the function is "On" and determine if it is now clicking. If it is clicking, then it is definitely the Relay and needs to be replaced.
