Fouled fuel injector

My car has been intermittently running rough for the last couple weeks. It feels like the fuel injectors are dirty, sometimes hesitating when I accelerate, maybe a little extra vibration. I added a cleaner to a new tank of gas and used it up and it did not fix anything. I did notice that it seems to get worse once it gets down to 1/4 tank or less. I took it to the mechanic. He told me there is water in my 2nd cylinder and it is fouling the fuel injector. This is what the computer told him. He wants to charge me a lot of money to take out the head, check and change the packings, put new fuel injectors, and maybe change the rings. The car runs fine most of the time. In a typical 20 minute drive it could happen not at all or maybe a total of 2 or 3 minutes out of the 20.

Does he really have to do all that stuff to fix it? What is the cheapest way to fix it?

Thanks.

If that is truly what he told you then you need a second opinion. You can't foul a fuel injector. The computer won't tell you there is water in a cylinder, they aren't that good. Did he give you a print out of codes or anything? You could have some bad fuel in the tank since you said it gets worse when the fuel is low. Get a second opinion or look at your paperwork from the first guy and tell me what he really said.

2000 maxima, car runs rough smell fuel

This could be a number of things. I'd like to know more about the cars maintenance history and any recent repairs that you have had performed. Symptoms of a rough idle and the smell of raw gas could be related to a clogged air filter, fouled spark plug, bad COP (coil over plug), or related wiring, clogged CAT (too much back pressure), dirty or defective, MAF sensor, damaged EGR valve, timing, damaged intake valve (need to perform a compression test to confirm), or a damaged fuel injector (the injector could be clogged, worn out and no longer spraying correctly). Please write back. I'm not sure what tests and inspections, you have already done. Were there any other symptoms? Did the engine light come on at all? If so, did you retrieve any codes? Let me know if this information helps and where you want to start from here, good luck.

Rough idle and shakes

Have you used fuel system cleaner in a while? Sometimes just dirty injectors can cause this. Also have you changed the air filter in the last year? Be sure to spray clean the throttle body when taking apart...These routine services can help wonders...as well as mileage:) Hope this helps. I like STP super concentrated in the black bottle...

Dead cylinder number 2 bad injector number 2

use a digital volt meter, put it on the ohm scale check number 2 fuel injector should be 11 to 16 ohms if not reads zero fuel injector faulty.if numbe 2 fuel injector okay.use noid light hook it to fuel injector electrical connector with fuel injector disconnected and see if pcm is firing the fuel injector noid light should blink when cranking the engine.if light steady pcm not firing 2 fuel injector,if noid light dont light up.there is a open in the wiring connector 2 fuel injector 2. if fuel injector okay, check spark plug, carbon foul you have a bad ignition coil or wire if you see oil on spark plug you have worn piston ring or leaking valve guides allowing oil to foul out spark plug.do a compression test check compression to see condition of the cylinder.

The P0304 indicates the #4 cylinder is misfiring. The flashing light means the cylinder is not firing at all...It could be several things causeing it, coil, wires, plug, injector or vacuum leak. Do not drive your vehicle until you have this repaired, as it will lead to further more costly problems. Good luck, i hope this helps.

1994 3.0 Merc. Sable (153K miles). Intermittent no start (cranks, but won't turn over). When it does start, it sometimes runs rough until it warms up. The problem first started in the summer time a couple...

This could be fuel not reaching the injectors. Check for a clogged fuel filter or fuel lines. Dirty or clogged fuel injectors. Also difficulty starting after rain can be caused from old plug wires. I hope this helps.

The explorer stalls at idle. it's not running rough and it runs as long as the rpm's are above idle

Possible causes: dirty fuel injector; get a can of injector cleaner which you had to your fuel tank and run the vehicle for a few days.
Fouled spark plug(s); have plugs checked and replaced if needed.
Improper engine timing; Have engine timing, (the timing of each cylinder firing) by a qualified mechanic and have timimg adjusted if necessary.
If none of the above helps have a diagnostics run to determine cause.
